IGBC Green Hotels Rating System
The Indian hospitality industry has emerged as a key contributor to the nation’s economic growth, accounting for nearly 5% of the GDP and supporting millions of livelihoods across the country. The hotel sector continues to expand rapidly to cater to domestic and international travellers.
As the sector grows, it faces increasing environmental challenges, rising energy and water consumption, waste generation, and the overall ecological impact of large-scale operations. These concerns highlight the need for responsible development practices that ensure business growth while safeguarding natural resources.
Against this background, the Green Hotels Rating System is launched to guide and evaluate the adoption of sustainable practices in the hospitality sector.
