IGBC Green Existing Cities

IGBC Green Cities (Existing Cities) rating system is a voluntary and consensus-based programme. The rating system has been developed with the support of IGBC Green Cities Committee.

IGBC Green Cities rating system is the first of its kind rating in India to address environmental sustainability in existing cities. The rating system shall enable the municipalities, municipal corporations, development authorities and developers to formulate green policy interventions and implement green initiatives at the city scale, so as to reduce environmental impacts that are measurable and improve the overall quality of life.

Benefits

There are tremendous benefits in greening existing cities in the country, particularly in the context of several cities going smart. Green and smart are mutually inclusive and would offer benefits, both tangible and intangible

The tangible benefits of greening existing cities are as follows:
  • 10-12% reduction in power demand due to higher share of solar thermal, solar photovoltaic and wind energy
  • 25-30% reduction in the lighting consumption of the city
  • 15-20% reduction in water consumption due to better metering and monitoringli>
  • Increased segregation in municipal waste leading to better handling
  • Increase in use of public transport to the extent of 8-10%
  • 8-10% increase in use of treated wastewater for city application
The intangible benefits are as follows:
  • Better land use
  • Preparedness for climate disasters
  • Increase in ground water table
  • Increase in the city landscape cover
  • Provision for more public conveniences
  • Citizen engagement through the city e-portals
  • Better parking management strategies

Scope

Existing Cities shall meet the following criteria to qualify for IGBC Green Cities Rating:
  1. As per Census 2011, all statutory towns & cities which are notified under law by the concerned State/ UT Government and have local bodies like municipal corporations, municipalities, municipal committee, irrespective of their demographic characteristics shall be categorized as Existing cities.
  2. Class I Urban Agglomerations / Towns (more than 1,00,000 population), Million Plus UAs/ Towns and Mega Cities (more than 10 million population) can be considered for the rating (in a pan city manner or phase wise or zone wise manner)
  3. Large existing cities under PPP (Public-Private Partnership) can also come under the ambit of existing cities.

Cities can define a notional boundary under which it can go for the IGBC Green Cities Rating (Existing Cities). This can be done either phase wise or zone wise and the boundary can be expanded in the subsequent years.

  • Fee is exclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST)
  • Registration and Certification fee are non-refundable
  • Membership discounts can be availed only if the Project Owner or Developer is a member of IGBC
Payment Details:

Payment can be done either through Online and Offline options. Online payment mode includes Debit Card, Credit Card and Net Banking. Offline payment mode includes Demand Draft and Cheque.

In case, the payment is through Cheque / Demand Draft, the Cheque / Demand Draft should be drawn in favor of 'Confederation of Indian Industry' payable at Hyderabad and couriered it to the following address:
